To stop the instance, we open SQL Server Configuration Manager and choose the corresponding instance, right click on it and select Stop. In this case you have to import Access database into SQL Server. To do that, we can stop the instance (it is strongly recommended to perform all these tests only on test instances), move the master database files (data and log or only one of them) to another location and then try to start the instance. Let assume you have customers who use Access database and you give them a new version of the program which uses SQL Server instead. We can illustrate this behavior by making the master database unavailable. Fact 3 – If the master database is not available, it is not possible to start SQL ServerĪs the initialization information, information about other databases in the instance and their files’ locations are stored in the master database, it is not possible to start the instance if the master database is not available. So, the master database does not contain system objects, such as the data in sys.objects, anymore. Rename the corrupted master database and log files to '.old' as shown (Figure 4) 5. With every full backup of a MSSQL Server or instance the following files get created (Figure 3) a. Go to the data folder under MSSQL (Figure 2) 3. Starting with SQL Server 2005, these objects are stored in the resource database, which is a hidden, read-only system database. Go to the MSSQL folder on the Server where SQL is installed (Figure 1) 2. When the master, model, msdb, and tempdb system databases are rebuilt, the databases are dropped and recreated in their original location. Well, while in older versions of SQL Server, such as SQL Server 2000, the master database contained the system objects, in newer versions this data is no longer stored in the master database. Support for all versions of MS SQL and SQL server Can be installed on almost all versions of Windows OS Even a free trial version is available Download the free version, repair your database, and preview it Conclusion Using the above methodologies, one can easily restore SQL master database. ![]() ![]() There is a common misconception that system objects are stored in the master database. Fact 2 – System objects are not stored in the master database This is because the tables containing the system-level information are hidden and are not visible from SSMS.
